Before it was apartments, this corner was a pub. The Golden Lion opened here in 1792, was rebuilt in 1848, and kept one landlord, Phineas Lewis, from 1910 until 1955. The pub has gone. The cream stucco and the round-arched windows stayed, the lion lent its gold to the name, and behind them is Golden Britannia: one, two and three-bedroom apartments at one of London's best-connected corners.
